The movie is spread over a span of 7 years, and begins with Maya (Chitrangada) joining Rahul's (Arjun Rampal) company as an intern. Gradually she learns the tricks of the trade from him, and turns into a powerful lady at work.
One fine day, she accuses Rahul of sexual harassment; Rahul strongly refutes the allegation. Who is lying here... that's the mystery the film tries to uncover.

Review of Inkaar  (2013 - Hindi)

Inkaar movie review, and Inkaar critics rating, comments on Inkaar
2.45/5

Sudhir Mishra is known for making films with hard hitting themes like ‘Yeh Who Manzil To Nahin’, ‘Main Zinda Hoon’, ‘Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin’, ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’, ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’, ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’, ‘Chameli’, etc. The best part of all these films is the way he narrates them with total gripping and stylish manner. Out of these films there are many such films which are pretty average in terms of subject and story writing, but shine out due to Sudhir’s razor edge direction and performances by his lead actors. After the surprise hit ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’ he comes back with a sexual harassment drama ‘Inkaar’ starring his muse Chitrangda Singh & Arjun Rampal. There were rumors floating around that this movie is remake of Michael Douglas-Demi Moore starrer ‘Disclosure’, so let’s find out whether this movie is clone of the classic or has its own merits.

‘Inkaar’ is story of Rahul Verma {Arjun Rampal} a CEO of advertising firm and his national creative director Maya {Chitrangda Singh}. Maya has pressed sexual harassment charges against Rahul. Thus the company has set up a inquire committee lead by Socialist Mrs. Kamdar {Dipti Naval} & others. Both present their side of stories which also unfolds the yesteryears bonding between the duo leading to fight for the power & position. Who’s guilty? Who’s innocent? Well that’s what the film is about.

Story does have some similarities with ‘Disclosure’ or even our own desi version of it ‘Aitraaz’, not to forget Basu Chatterjee’s ‘Seesha’ starring Mithun Chkrobothy. But despite of all these ‘Inkaar’ has its own style and story to narrate. The whole concept of inquire committee questioning Arjun & Chitrangda keeps the movie gripping and interesting. Screenplay in first half is total tight and nail biting but as the movie progresses this small issue is stretched too much till the finale that it loses its charm. There are some interesting scenes like Arjun’s reply over flirting & harassment, The whole Thailand trip, Arjun – Chitrangda tiff over model, Kanwaljeet Singh’s talk with his boss, Chitrangda’s frustration over her new work followed by the party at Arjun’s place, Indirect messages by Arjun to Chitrangda, etc.
On the flip side the matter is too small to be stretched for more than two hours diluting the fiery theme. The whole Chitrangda – Sandeep Sachdev track was wasted. The issue of sexual harassment seems more as a debate between two sexes rather than a horrifying crime, repetitive scenes and disappointing climax. Camera work is fine, but the close up shots during the interrogations tends to visually disturb you. Editing is superb in first half and equally opposite in the second half. For such films the editing has to be swift.

Music by Shantanu Moitra is good but not great as it used to be in Sudhir Mishra’s films or their other scores for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s camp. ‘Maula Tu Malik’ is an outstanding song and probably the best of this whole album. ‘Zindagi ka Karobar’, ‘Darmiyan’ are good and goes well with the film. Rest songs are average. Background music goes well with the film.

Sudhir Mishra handles this subject with total style and unusual manner. He manages to keep you indulged to the silver screen, especially in the first half even without blinking your eyes. But sadly stretches the pea size matter too long and ends up giving a disappointing climax. The climax on its individual basis is very good, but when compared to the theme of the film goes total contrast & seems pretty juvenile. [Spoiler Alert Begins] The makers are screaming this film as a film based on sexual harassment, but the viewers finds almost everything in this film expect the main issue. [Spoiler Alert Ends] Also the maker takes too long to reveal the final moments, till then the audience have to go through cinematic harassment of repetitive scenes and guessing game deciding who’s right or who’s wrong. Despite of all these flaws (which if avoided we would had a great hard hitting thriller to cherish) the director manages to get some good performances by his actors followed by some great powerful scenes and a razor sharp first half.

Arjun Rampal looks great and gives a decent hard hitting performance. Chitrangda Singh looks sexy and does her part with total conviction. Together both share great screen chemistry. Dipti Naval is brilliant in her small but important role. Vipin Sharma is hilarious. Asheesh Kapur, Akansha, Kaizaad Kotwal, Gaurav Diwedi, Vivek Vaswani, Mohan Kapoor, etc lends great support. Kanwajleet Singh in his few scenes is outstanding. It was great to see yesteryears actress Rehana Sultan in a small cameo, wished she had more to offer. Sandeep Sanchdev was terrible. Ketan Mehta & Saurab Shukla too were there in a Sp.App.

Ratings of Inkaar Movie: 2.75/5 {for gripping direction & good performances}
